The Rumbek Catholic Church priest lost $2,884 and Ksh 92,500 during the Monday mugging. Father Machuol told Gurtong that he was attacked by men posing as policemen after visiting a bank at the city centre.

“I was going back to my residence at Langata Seminary, some kilometers from the city centre, to pick a friend with whom I was to go shopping in town. It was then that three men alighted from a car and confronted me claiming to be looking for a Mr. John. In a flash of seconds, I was bungled into the car which the robbers drove to a coffee plantation in the outskirts of the city”, narrated Father Machuol who had visited his family in Nairobi.

He said the robbers tied him to a tree after beating him and robbing him of cash and valuables. Father Machuol said he was rescued by a motorcyclist who escorted him to the nearest police station.

“I explained my predicament to the police but unfortunately they did not offer any help”, he said. He said he was responding well to treatment although he was still nursing a swollen eye.
