The security operatives also arrested at least 40 suspects, in the last three months according to the county authorities.

Torit County Commissioner, German Charles Ojok told the press on Friday that eight riffles were recovered from Ogurunyu, 11 from Tirangore, two from Mura and three from Haforere village of Hiyala payam.

He said the recovery of the fire-arms and arrest of suspects was through joint efforts of the police, community leaders and the traditional chiefs.

The commissioner explained that the authorities further launched another operation to recover guns at Murahatiha Boma where the youth there are alleged to have been using them for raiding and killing each other.

He said the youth of Murahatiha Boma using such arms raided 37 herds of cattle belonging to butchers in Torit town in February 2013.

Mr Ojok said some of the 40 suspected raiders were in police custody while others have already been sentenced to imprisonment in Torit correctional facility.

Additionally, he disclosed that in a separate operations only this year alone, about 194 cattle have been recovered and returned to their owners while 22 youth were arrested a following a series of fighting in the county.
