Simon Gatluak whose shop is among the affected ones says fire incidents happen every year in the state as the same market got burnt last year in addition to Rubkona main market, Suk Shabi, and Mayom.

“Many of the properties are being destroyed by fire because firefighting are not helping the community and when the fire erupted, the local people use only the ordinary water tanks that are selling water and the help of many people around there in removing commodities out of the shops,” he said.

Many blamed the department of fire brigade of failing to carry out their task to help during the fire and currently there are no fire-extinguishers in the state and the fire fighters were not well trained and are not equipped.

Thus the fire was notorious, the was no injuries during the recovering and the cause of the fire is not yet clear as some say it is cause by an electricity and other say it is a cooking gas.

The local police authority operating in the market says they are investigating the incident but the fire fighters could not be reached as they were not at the site.

Last year hundreds of houses and shops were destroyed in Bentiu and Robkona with many losing property in the process as the local community could not afford to build their houses and shops using concrete.
