The theatre has been poorly equipped and maintained for several years following lack of commitment and availability of skilful medical personnel in the hospital.

The renovation and other minor expenses were all met with support from Medicines Sans Frontiers- France (MSF-F); a medical humanitarian organization operating in the Sudan since 2002.

The State Minister of Health Tong Deng Anei hailed MSF-F for the support in boosting health facilities in South Sudan.

“MSF-F is our long term health partner in providing sufficient health services to our people in the country during the struggle and even up to now,” he said.

The minister added: “It has been a great achievement in terms of basic health facilities and basic health services especially here in NBGS. We would like them to continue with that spirit so that they keep on helping us because we are just a two-year old nation which cannot stand on its own.”

The minister however asked the administrations of MSF-F to refrain from using their own logo, arguing that that of Ministry of Health (MoH) should be added.

“I have been seeing that most of the premises are taking the MSF-F logos instead of MoH.  It is supposed to be the ministry’s logo followed by the supporting partner,” said Deng.

Lack of medical personnel, lack of technical equipments and other highly-rated laboratories were cited as the main challenges facing the state hospital.

The minister also said the ministry shall work harder to increase the pay for the doctors if they also commit themselves to working diligently for the ministry.

The Deputy Governor Salva Chol Ayat who officially graced the inauguration of the newly renovated OT expressed happiness over the improvement of the facility, saying the NBGS government shall be ready to upgrade and promote the well-being of the medical personnel.
