“We were arrested on 24 August and detained till 25 after top authority leaders in Juba intervene to secure our release,” a victim who begged for anonymity said.
“We were arrested in Barhgel under the command of Lt-Col Abil Chol. The soldiers were instructed to arrest the Assistant Secretary for finance after he disagreed with SPLM county Secretary over workers payment at the party county office,” he said.
He said they were alleged arrested as they visited their colleague Joseph Chikoc Majur.
“The soldiers told us that they were acting under county commissioner’s orders. We were beaten, abused and humiliated.. They denied us drinking water and we were also ordered to pay SSP 440 for chain and military cell entering fe,” he said.
The County Commissioner Isaac Mayom Malek could not pick his telephone when Gurtong contacted him for a comment. This is the first time Mayom declined to answer a telephone call from Gurtong.
