African First Lady Peace Mission Donates Food Items To South Sudan Vulnerable Groups

The donation seeks to benefit vulnerable groups including returnees, officials in Eastern Equatoria State have told the press in Torit after they received consignments of foodstuffs from African First Ladies Peace Mission’s through the South Sudan’s First Lady Mary Ayuen Mayardit.

The donation included 150 bags of rice, 25 bags of sugar, 30 cartons of salt, some packages of spaghetti, 10 Cartons of tomatoes, 30 Jerry cans of vegetable oil and 2 cartons of milk powder.

The leaders included state health Minister Dr. Margaret Itto Leonardo, Secretary General for the state government Charles Rino Atul, Gender, Culture and Social Development Minister Paska Hifita Oduho, Gender Ministry Director of Administration and Finance Guma Paul, Chairperson of Women Association Alma Maha Thomas, the state Women Association Financial Secretary Lina Paul, among others.

The health Minister clarified that the donation is going to be divided and distributed to all the eight Counties so vulnerable groups are able to benefit.

The Minister further clarified that the food is going to vulnerable communities and they are going to divide accordingly saying with the Torit hospital also receiving a portion.

Also, speaking to the press at the Women Association Centre, the newly appointed Gender Minister expressed gratefulness for the donation especially to the South Sudan’s First Lady Mary Ayuen Mayardit.

The African First Ladies Peace Mission, established to promote peace and harmony in Africa, came into being in 1995 after the Beijing Conference on women in Beijing, China.

The initiative was taken by the First Ladies of Nigeria, Gambia, Benin, Uganda, Lesotho and Burundi to undertake a mission to all African fragile nations like South Sudan.
