Monsignor Thomas Oliha, the Apostolic Administrator of Torit Diocese, Eastern Equatoria State (EES) made the appeal at Fr. Saturlino Hall in Torit at workshop today.
Describing it a key principle of the Catholic Church, Oliha noted that priests along with lay men need to comprehend and follow the social teachings of the Catholic Church.
He said key principles of the Catholic social teaching include human dignity, community and the common good, rights and responsibilities, options for the poor and vulnerable.
Other social teachings are promotion of peace, stewardship of creation, solidarity, participation, dignity of work and rights of workers and roles of government.
Facilitated by Sr. Cathy Arata from Solidarity with South Sudan, the workshop which commenced on Wednesday, a three-day workshop held at Fr Saturlino Hall in Torit attracted parish priests, founding members of Caritas-Torit and representatives of parish councilors.
Arata explained that the workshop aimed at reflecting together the importance of Catholic social teachings and how it related to local reality with pastoral agents.
She added the expectation is that each one will take an active role in building justice and peace in the community.
