The Sunday attack occurred in three cattle camps around Paleu, Maar, villages of Ajuong and Pageer Payams. The Murle are being suspected for the attack.

The Twic East County Commissioner, Dau Akoi Jurkuch says at least 46 people have been wounded and others are being searched to verify the figures of causalities and the dead as many people were still missing.

The commissioner said attackers came in large number and green uniforms. He said the World Food Pragramme (WFP) helped in transporting people with serious injuries to Bor Civil Hospital as other wounded people are gathered in the county headquarters of Panyagoor for first aid.

According to Dau, the attack that started in morning hours of Sunday was the worst ever in the county where three cattle camps in different locations were looted at the same time and all huts in the affected villages were burned down.

The commissioner also said from the early reports he has, six children have been abducted but more as well as women are still missing.

The State Minister of Local Government, Diing Akol said he was sending police to the affected places to rescue the people. “I am trying to get some cars now, buy the fuel to rash the few soldiers and that I have. As you know that it is Sunday, people are not there,” he said.

The road connecting areas of Maar, Paleu and Bor is so bad that organized forces would find it difficult to rescue the situation quickly. The police had claimed lack of fuel to transport them immediately.

The county authority reports that at least 50,000 heads of cattle have been looted by the people suspected to be loyal to renegade David Yau Yau.

The State Director of Red Cross, David Gai Deer said that they have evacuated patients to Bor Hospital through the joint effort between the state ministry of health and humanitarian agencies.

“The attackers have wounded about 20 people which we confirmed exactly. They are there and then the other information said that more than other 40 wounded people are also lying on ground. That needs to be verified,” Deer said.
