Dr. Elia Lomuro, Cabinet Affairs Minister told Gurtong in an exclusive interview that since he took office in September, he had taken lead to study the work force and find out whether all the civil servants are supposed to be in the positions they are holding.

The study which is about to finish is currently at its final stage to be implemented, Elia said.

“We are almost completing the review of civil servants so that we can effect transfers,” Elia said adding that “we have got information; who is in the government of South Sudan from grade I to 4 so that we can study and find out how many people do we have as undersecretaries, Director Generals, Directors and then we will ask the next question: do we need all of them? Or should we select the best.”

“Now we want to do this before December because in December we will want to review the budget and then effect implementation and deliver services. So we want to clean the system before that time,” stressed the Minister.

In July President Salva Kiir dissolved his entire cabinet and reduced the executive from 29 ministries to 22. Kiir said the move was aimed at improving service delivery.
