The day commemorated at Hard Rock Cafe, UNMISS Log base under the theme; “Young Global, Active Youth Volunteering for a better world,” raised a sum of SSP2, 560 and US$340.

Both national and international UNMISS staff attended the occasion led by their state Coordinator Deborah Schein.

Dr. Meroni Abraham, a medical doctor from the United Nations Volunteers Organizing Committee thanked his fellow UNMISS staff for raising the funds to support disadvantaged children in the state capital.

The day was made colorful with the UNMISS athletic race around the compound where the winners were awarded some medals.

Sandeep Singh from the Indian Battalian-1 (12minutes), Anter Yang (South Sudanese, 14 minutes) and Genny Dalsasso (best female) were first, second and third respectively in a race of five kilometers.

Dr. Abraham said the athletics demonstrated by the UNMISS staff is a good practice for better health of bodies and growth of muscles. 

Awarding the medals, UNMISS’ State Coordinator Schien congratulated the athletes and thanked the entire UNMISS team for their generous contribution to support vulnerable children in Malakal town.

Last year’s celebration of the UN Volunteers Day saw such contribution going to the prisoners of Malakal town.
