The Governor of Western Equatoria State (WES) Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro has donated at least 10 bicycles to Yambio FM radio staff to boast their work.

Bakosoro said the media has played an important role in the state more especially in uniting the people of WES as one family.

According to the governor, WES and its people are peaceful because the media advocate for peace through drama and other items.

He urged the radio staff to sacrifice and work hard to promote the name and values of the state as he urged them to focus more on the positives as opposed to negatives.

According to the governor, the state government is willing to train the radio staff but lack of enough resources has been a hindrance.

The State Minister of Information Charles Barnaba Kisanga appreciated the effort of the staff of the state radio for especially keeping it operational despite all the challenges.

Hon. Kisanga, who is also the state spokesperson of the state government said:  “My office is working hard to bring in the missing equipments to make sure the staff collect and cover information from all over the state.”

The State Legislative Assembly Speaker Hon. James Bage Elisa said without media the whole state could be in darkness.

The media has played a big role in sensitisation of the state citizens about HIV/AIDs which has seen the prevalence rate drop from 7.2 % to 6.8 %.

The governor donation of bicycles was emulated by the speaker and the minister of information who also donated a bicycle each to the staff.
