Adak, Lakes state’s powerful advisor was beaten by security forces instructed to search weapons in the area. The incident occurred on Saturday when her bodyguard was disarmed.

According to eyewitness, Adak questioned disarming of her guard without notification from governor. Her family member said it was not a normal weapon search and he described it as: “Targeting individuals who are out spoken in Lakes state government”.

“Those soldiers arrive in the house like three hundred and surrounded the house. They ordered advisor’s bodyguard to surrender his gun, the bodyguard accepted and gave his gun to them.  Adak asked: ‘what is going on for my bodyguard to be disarmed? She was instead beaten up.”

Lakes state minister of Information Marik Nanga Marik said no official disarmament has been announced by state government but investigation on how advisor was beaten is ongoing.

On Sunday, Adak was evocated to Western Bahr-el-Ghazal state (WBGS) for medication and the government still remains silent on the incident. She is one of the ministers who held higher positions since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed in 2005.

Over the last weeks, insecurity has increased in Lakes state with dozens of people killed in cattle raids and other violence between rival clans.

Deputy Governor Santo Dumic Chol said that 95 people died in separate cycle of revenge killing and no suspects have been arrested. Lakes state’s police blamed young and the general public for not sharing information with them.
