The incumbent Speaker Monicah Achol William Amuoi was kicked out of office by a section of members at a sitting on Monday.

The heated session attended by 29 members of the assembly removed the speaker and her deputy from office over what they termed as “gross misconduct and incompetence”.

At the seating, the Speaker, deputy speaker and 12 chairpersons of various committees at the assembly were removed from office.

The members installed Isaac Makau Ayok as the new speaker and Akoon Diing Angok as the deputy speaker.

Speaker Achol however, accused certain politicians of eyeing her seat, saying that some of them had attempted numerous antics to haul her out of office.

She told Gurtong that some members of the assembly had employed unorthodox means to remove her from office, including sexual intimidation.

“Leading men as a woman is not an easy task and requires a strong willpower. Some politicians can do anything to ensure you are out of office”, she said.

Achol disclosed that she had thought of quitting office peacefully following prolonged wrangles at the assembly.

The speaker has moved to court to seek redress against a member, Joseph Deng Nguac whom she accused of calling her a prostitute.

She has also accused another member, Garang Mawien of violently evicting her deputy from office.

Mawien has, however, denied the allegations, saying he was merely acting upon orders of the house to replace the deputy speaker after his impeachment.
