The conflict that erupted in December 2013, have seen millions fleeing their homes in search for a safer place. The two warring parties to the conflict, the SPLM and the SPLM-O who are at a deadlock in the peace talk negotiations being mediated by IGAD are yet to reach a comprehensive peace agreement.

In Rumbek, Lakes State, revenge attacks has been a common occurrence between cattle keepers and has often led to the loss of lives. In December last year, two people were killed in a revenge attack between the Thuyiic clans and Gony clan in Rumbek East County.

Speaker Baipath Majuec is calling on for peace and reconciliation in the whole of South Sudan ifDevelopment is to be realised. He was addressing a gathering at the Freedom Square in Rumbek during the New Year’s celebrations.

“There is a strong need for collective peace and reconciliation not only to the rebels groups but all communities should come together for peace and stability….the year 2015 should be designed to be a year for cooperation between the Executive, Judiciary and Legislatures.”

The Speaker also urged other authorities to work together for the better good of the country.

“We must work closely and with respect to our different institution without abuse to other units.”

The celebration was attended by, the minister of Cabinet Affairs in the National government, Elia Lomuro, the Minister in the President’s office, Awan Guol Riak among other dignitaries.
