The newly appointed Deputy Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in its Northern Bahr el Ghazal Secretariat, Jiel Mangok has dismissed allegations of power struggle within the party.
Following a heated debate during a closed door-meeting over the weekend attended by the SPLM party members, a conclusion was made that the party needs restructuring as some positions remained vacant due to defection of other members.
Mangok, said the meeting was not meant to offend any member but restructure the council.
“The meeting was not meant to provoke anybody or intended to pinpoint or blackmail anybody within the party or outside but rather to unite ourselves by restructuring our party in order to meet objectives in a timely manner.”
Mangok further disclosed that the restructuring of the party is also connected with filling of vacant positions as a result of deaths, resignation and dismissal.
“Another important reason for this meeting was to fill in our vacant positions which were caused by the deaths, resignations, some joined the rebels and some were dismissed when they contested as independent candidates during elections; as such their positions remained empty which needed to be filled and that is why we filled them today.” He added.
The replaced were:
Ernest Mangok Mangok replaced Malong Anyuon who is said to have joined the SPLM in Opposition, Anei Anei replaced Akol Madhan also said to have joined the SPLM in Opposition, Bol Angara who allegedly resigned and went to contest as an independent candidate during the 2010 elections was replaced by William Kolong Pioth, Arkangelo Athian Teng Angok was replaced by Jiel Mangok Yel.
Regarding claims of arrests of some party members, Mamgok said the arrests were not politically motivated.
“Yes, Arkangelo Athian Teng Angok and Yel Deng Nguel were arrested separately because of a slight misunderstanding; this was not politically motivated as people might have heard it, they were arrested separately on their individual-based offences and were released a day after.” He confirmed.
