Eastern Equatoria Police Commissioner, Major General Edward Demitry Lukak told the press that the escapees were part of a gang of 25 who were arrested last December for charges of mass murder in Loronyo.

The Loronyo attack that led to the death of about 30 people including women and children last December   was as a result of a cattle raid between the Loronyo community and the Idali Community of Lopita area.

The police commissioner said that the prisoners escaped at around 11 PM after breaking the cell behind the building, where at least 6 were captured as they were trying to get away with the other 19.

He said that security organs are pursuing the culprits.

Torit County Commissioner, Hon. German Charles Ojok has strongly condemned the prison break.

The Deputy Governor, Jerome Gama Surur was among those visited the Police Central Division in Torit toinvestigate how the escapees managed to make away in the face of tight security.
