Aamir Khan, chief of his faction of MQM Haqiqi, rejoined MQM (Altaf) after 20 years of separation that led to lethal violence and bloodshed amongst the rival factions of MQM, killing hundreds and terrorizing millions in Karachi.

Aamir Khan was in jail since 2003. He was recently acquitted and then went to 90, MQM headquarters in Azizabad, to ask for pardon for the lives lost in past two decades. He later announced that he is rejoining MQM (Altaf) and will work as an ordinary worker. Altaf Hussain generously pardoned him after getting a vote from the bereaved families.

While Altaf Hussain has pardoned Aamir Khan for the deaths of MQM-A workers by the hands of MQM-H, who will be held accountable for the killings of Haqiqi workers?

Aamir Khan’s inclusion in MQM is a big blow to the rebels within and outside the ranks of the party, including the Haqiqi faction of Aafaq Ahmed. Assuming Aamir Khan has brought his workers with him, MQM will get more manpower and can battle for, and occupy, further strategic locations in Karachi.

While Aamir Khan has rejoined MQM as a worker, he may be elevated to the position once held by the late Dr. Imran Farooq, whose assassins are still at large and MQM has apparently closed the file on him.
