At least 19 oil tankers of a goods train caught fire on Wednesday. During that time the train was at Chanmana village between Aluabari and Mangurjaan railway stations in Bihar’s Kishanganj district.

One person has been killed. Other than the burning tankers at least two tankers had derailed.

SK Bhardwaj ADG (Railways), while talking to the media, said that the goods train was on its way to Tatanagar in Jharkhand when the oil tankers derailed and caught fire.

“One of the burning oil tankers trailed from the track and fell on a villager working in the fields nearby, who was charred to death.” local man told the reporters.

The deceased was 26-year-old, known as Moti ur Rehman.

Sandip Kumar Pudkalkatti, the Kishanganj District Magistrate maintained that fire fighters with tenders rushed in from Islampur, the neighboring area. The fire fighters were hardly able to control the fire on the tankers.

Kumar Pudkalkatti said “24 oil tankers were detached from the rear of the train.” These tankers had been taken to Mangurjan station; moreover three other tankers from the engine were taken to Aluabari.

Estimation of the damage, accruing to Railway sources, is Rs10 crore.
