"We do not have the numbers to destabilize the government. We do not even need to destabilize the government. It is collapsing under its own contradictions." Arun Jaitley, leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said in a press conference.

Arun Jaitley was reacting to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s comments. Mr Singh had said that the Opposition wanted to destabilize the government in the hope of forcing early elections.

During his address Jaitley said “The Prime Minister has distanced himself from ground realities… he is living in denial. We don’t have the numbers to destabilize the government, and we don’t need to do so.”

“The UPA government had a crisis of leadership and would collapse under the weight of its own contradictions and under the liability of its own image,” Jaitley added.

The BJP leader said that if there appeared a midterm poll it definitely would be on account of government’s own “doings” and not “our asking”. The leader also said that the PM was fully aware of the under pricing of 2G spectrum.
