According to police authorities, An Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG 29 crashed in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul Valley on Wednesday. The rescue team has begun their operation to search for survivors in the treacherous mountain terrain. Until now there has been no official confirmation about the number of people travelling in the ill fated aircraft, which crashed on Tuesday night.
Superintendent of police Bimal Gupta said “A communication was received from the IAF at around 8.30pm on Tuesday that a MiG 29 has crashed. A team of rescue workers has reached Chokhan village from where they have started trudging up the mountains to reach the accident spot,”
He added “We are awaiting the arrival of the IAF teams. The accident spot is quite treacherous and inaccessible. IAF choppers are likely to be deployed to reach the spot,”
Chokhan village on the Keylong-Udaipur highway is about 40 km away from the district headquarters of Keylong and 450 km from Shimla.
“We have no information about the number of people on board the aircraft,” deputy commissioner Rajeev Shankar said.
