Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani has gone on record to say that Pakistan Army has no objection over the government having dialogue with the Taliban.
General Kayani while briefing the Parliamentary defense committee at GHQ Rawalpindi said that he has no plans of directing the troops to North Waziristan prior to the government’s orders.
The COAS also said that he conveyed the message to United States that Pakistan do not need any military aid, and that there would be no compromise on national sovereignty in bilateral ties between the two countries.
He also revealed that the defense budget was lessening each year because of inflation, and that the Army of Pakistan had only received 0.2 billion dollars of the six billion promised by the United States.
General Kayani also made it clear that the internal affairs of Pakistan should be handled by police and civil intelligence agencies and army should not be involved in these matters.
He said “Army is not the solution of every problem,”
According to the COAS Unites States of America should focus primarily on the stability of Afghanistan and they should stop pushing Pakistan to attack militant groups in a crucial border region.
