Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described his Pakistani Counterpart Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani as “man of peace”, a statement that has not gone down too well with the opposition parties in India.

BJP in particularly have been angered by the tag given to Pakistani Prime Minister.

BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said “The PM has erred in describing Gilani as a man of peace. The central issue between India and Pakistan has been cross border terrorism and there is nothing Pakistan has done to warrant the impression that they are serious about tackling the issue,”

Sinha pointed to contrary statement by Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik that there is no evidence against the JuD led by Hafiz Saeed.

However Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is of the opinion that the current round of talks will lead to peace and harmony between the two rivals. He said “The time has come to write a new chapter in the history of our relationship. And I am very happy that Prime Minister Gilani fully endorses this view… the next round of talks should be far more productive, far more result-oriented in bringing the two countries closer to each other than ever before,”
