Train accident in Assam: 3 killed, 50 injured

Three passengers died and approximately 50 got hurt in the Assam train accident when five compartments and the engine of the train derailed due to an obstacle on the rail track in the rural district of Assam, Kamrup on Friday morning.

The obstacle that came in the way of the train is reported to be an earth-cutting vehicle which got stuck on the train trail. Two persons and the driver of the earth-cutting vehicle died on the spot when they were hit by the train at Gossianghati within Mirza and Azara at 9:30 am. The bogies and the engine derailed as the result of the collision.

The police authorities informed that the injured passengers were rushed to the nearby Mirza Public Health Center by the local people whereas the critically hurt were transferred to MMC Civil Hospital and Gauhati Medical College Hospital in Guwahati.

The dead people from the earth-cutting vehicle after being hit by the Guwahati Chilarai Passenger train were identified as Saloi and Bipul Rabha. One is still unidentified.

Railway officials, police authorities, and local citizens reached the accident location in no time and assisted taking the injured to the hospital. Disaster Management Authority (DMA) also participated in the process and initiated relief activities instantly.

As a result of the collision, the some of the wheels of the train and the train track were damaged as well.
