UP casts 25% votes till noon

About 25% of the total registered voters in Uttar Pradesh casted their votes until noon in the seventh phase of the polling session on Saturday.

The chief electoral officer announced in the morning that 24.7% of the voting had already taken place. Polling carried out is for 60 seats in the state, amongst which about 50% of them were occupied by BJP before. Quite a few significant political authorities were also recorded to have casted their vote before noon time today. These included SP Azam Khan, BJP general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, and MP Jaya Pradha.

Election Commission officers also reported that the concluding phase has picked up the slow pace of voting in the region as shown previously. The most active polling regions were Moradabad, Rampur, Lakhimpur, and Philibhit.

During various violence issues rising in the rolling phase that started almost a month ago, two polling officers died natural deaths and about 17 female members of the department of police were injured. The injuries on the 17 female constables took place Saturday morning when a minibus was carrying the staff overturned. According to hospital administration, the constables had minor injuries who were discharged after first aid whereas three had comparatively serious injuries and they were being further examined.

In regards to the polling officers who died late Friday due to cardiac arrest, the chief election officer Umesh Sinha said that alternate arrangement were being made to not hamper the process of polling.
