A medium intensity earthquake strikes Delhi and its neighboring states on Monday morning creating panic amongst the local population who reacted by running out of their offices and homes.

The earthquake was recorded at a Richter scale of 4.9 and is reported to be originating from Haryana’s Bahadurgarh. Adjoining areas feeling the shocks of earthquake include Noida and Ghaziabad. The earthquake was felt at about 1:11 pm.

One of the senior state officers reported, “The intensity was 4.9 and the epicentre was Bahadurgarh, Delhi-Haryana Border”.

According to the information released by the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake was of 5.4 Richter scale and originated 9km from below the surface which was felt for about 10 seconds only. The report also mentioned that Delhi falls under the zone IV which is marked as one of the severe earthquake centers in the region.

There are no casualties reported. Emergency services and fire brigade have also not reported any calls for emergency and casualties. Several other earthquake shocks have been reported in the region, the capital city and 30 other cities falling in the emergency zone IV since September last year.

Geological survey of India has made arrangements and taken precaution steps regarding the danger zone IV for earthquakes.
