Philippines police claims to have arrested the main suspect belonging to a terrorist gang for the country’s worst political massacre which took place in 2009 on Monday.
The 27 year old suspect is Ipeh Amputuan, who is accused amongst another hundred people for initiating the massacre along with his grandfather which led to mass killing of 57 individuals in the state of Maguindanao in 2009. The accused was trying to escape the land via a boat from the southern side of Cotabato city the day before when police tried to catch him after a bomb explosion in the boat which gave him a leg wound and destroyed the boat completely. Other individuals on the boat also got hurt, amongst which one lost his life. However, the police was successful in catching the suspect alive.
The chief superintendent of police of the province, Marcelo Pintac spoke to the media and said, “The arrested suspect has been hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the explosion. He has warrants of arrest and we served it.”
He also informed that the reason of explosion was unknown but the suspect has been sent to hospital with special security at the venue as there are high chances of Amputuan gunmen trying to rescue.
