A taxi caught fire on Tuesday in the CTE tunnel at the Central Expressway towards the Bukil Timah Road exit.

Reports from various news channels have informed that the taxi on fire has led to a gigantic traffic jam hurdling the roadways for quite a long time now. Due to the taxi on fire, the traffic at the tunnel was jammed which led to huge lines of traffic jam behind as the cars did not know what was happening at the further end of the road. Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) was called in immediately which closed the tunnel and started to divert traffic so that the vehicle on fire could be removed. Alongside, members of SCDF also worked on putting off the fire on the vehicle.

After quite a few hours of struggles by the SCDF team, the traffic jam was finally finished and traffic was diverted on the AYE from the Bukil Timah exit. Land and Transport Authority (LTA) made an announcement at 12 45 pm declaring that the route and the tunnel have been cleared out and are now open for regular traffic.

According to the information provided by the team of SCDF, there were no reported injuries. The taxi driver had successfully gotten out of the car when it caught fire and the SCDF team members took 15 minutes to put off the taxi on fire. They also informed that the cause behind the fire is still to be investigated.
