The government of Chattisgarh rushed a set of medicines on Tuesday as soon as they were informed that the abducted district collector Alex Paul Memon was in a critical condition.
The delivery of medicine has been facilitated by the president of the All India Adivasi Mahasabha, Manish Kunjam, who was nominated as a mediator by those who abducted the district collector. He was named by the kidnappers to act as a facilitator and said that negotiations with the government will only be conducted with Kunjam as the mediator. Kunjam had initially refused to get involved in the matter; however, hearing about the critical condition of the collector, he has agreed to take the medicines to the mentioned location.
After the government conveyed to the kidnappers that they wanted to solve the matter via talks, they nominated three names whom they asked to serve as mediators and only then will they communicate. These included Manish Kunjam, chairperson of the ex-National ST Commission BD Sharma, and Prashant Bhushan who is a lawyer. Amongst the three, Kunjam has agreed to take the medicine to the government officer who has been stated critical. He said that he had agreed to act as a mediator after special request from the government. He said, “Menon’s life is supreme. I will be going to Sukma soon to take the medicines and then proceed to Tarimetla. Thereafter, I will come back.”
