A private bus fell into a valley near Naldug of Osmanabad in Maharashtra on Saturday, killing 32 people from Andhra Pradesh and injuring 21 passengers on their way to Shirdi. The injured were shifted to hospitals in Sholapur and Osmanabad and the bodies of Shirdi pilgrims were being shifted to Hyderabad. The death toll might rise as the condition of some injured pilgrims were critical.

The accident occurred near Jakot village, around 40 km from Osmanabad, on the Hyderabad-Solapur highway as the bus was proceeding to Shirdi, the abode of the revered saint, Shri Saibaba.

State civil supplies minister Sridhar Babu along with a team of officials left Osmanabad in a helicopter to make special arrangements for the bodies to be shifted to Hyderabad, to provide medical help to the injured and to arrange special buses to take the relatives of the victims to Osmanabad.

The agency executives said relatives of the victims could get on the bus to reach the accident spot. They said, “The bus would go till Sholapur so that the relatives can attend on the injured passengers undergoing treatment at Sholapur hospital.” The Osmanabad police said the identity of the 32 dead was still unknown. “As the injured are shifted to other hospitals, there is no way we could confirm the victims’ identity. We are awaiting arrival of the victims’ relatives,” they said.

Some of the survivors told the media person that the driver of the bus was over-speeding and was inebriated that led to this dreadful tragedy. Some eyewitnesses reported that the bus overturned about five times and caught fire before tumbling around 30 feet below the bridge.
