Public members assisted police to arrest crime suspects

Four suspects for snatch theft and robbery of mobile phones in two separate cases were arrested by the police with the help of three members of public. On June 19, a 21-year-old victim was attacked in Jurong West Street 91 early in the morning by a 22-year-old robber.

The victim was walking along the void deck of Block 945 around 4: 45am when the subject snatched her mobile phone. After borrowing her phone, he punched the lady on her left cheek and then ran away. Without delaying she started to shout for help and also gave a chase. Thus, alerting three passers-by who aided in capturing the thief.       

The police arrested the thief and the stolen mobile phone was recovered and was handed over to its owner. On June 20 the accused would be charged in the Court for the robbery. If he would be guilty, then he would be sentenced to a maximum jail term of 20 year and punished with at least 12 strokes of the cane.   

On the other hand, another case of snatching theft was occurred on June 18 in the evening at the void deck of Block 716 Woodlands Avenue 6. Police arrested three suspects aged 15 to 16-years-old for robbing a 25-year-old lady. One of them sneaked up from behind the victim and snatched her mobile phone then fled towards Block 727 Woodlands Circle.

The lady shouted for assistance and attracted three public members who were able to grab the suspect. The police recovered the victim’s phone and took the thief into their custody.
