The Bollywood’s first superstar Rajesh Khanna was suffering from a chronic liver ailment. He was discharged from Lilavati hospital two days ago and he passed away at his residence, Ashirwad, in Bandra on Wednesday. Vijay Zaveri, a close friend of the actor said, “He had liver infection, he had liver problem. He had stopped eating food as he couldn’t eat anything. During the last stage of his life, he was on liquid like juice.”

According to the actor’s family sources, the body of the actor would be taken from his bungalow on Thursday at 10 am and will be cremated at 11.30 am at Pawan Han’s crematorium in suburban Vile Parle. The sources said that the funeral was kept for Thursday because Khanna’s ‘rakhi sister’ had come late this evening. The actor was hospitalized several times since April due to his weakness.

His condition was worsening since April when he stopped eating and complained of weakness. For nearly two weeks after complaining of exhaustion and uneasiness, he was admitted to the hospital. Last Saturday, he was re-admitted and discharged on Monday.

Khanna’s family had requested confidentiality the Lilavati hospital officials to be tight-lipped about Khanna’s condition. Dr Sudhir Dagaonkar, spokesperson of Lilavati hospital told the media, “Since Khanna was not admitted to the hospital when he died, we cannot comment on his condition. In any case, the family has asked us not to talk to the media about his ailment.” A source from the hospital said, “His vital parameters measuring heart, kidney and other functions showed that he was not doing very well.”
