Former IPS officer and activist Kiran Bedi claims full support for the revised Lokpal Bill draft. Bedi insists the bill meets most of the concerns, hence shall be fully backed. On the other hand, the same bill has received criticism and harsh rejection from main opposition BJP and anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare.

Kiran Bedi said: “The selection of the director of CBI is considerably corrected. Now it is a selection by a 3-member committee. It has a fixed tenure of 2 years. Any case of corruption referred to CBI will not be under the government or politicians and that is good.”

The bill draft has also been cleared by the Union Cabinet and the Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha. Shortly after the approval, Bedi also tweeted on the same matter:

“It will do us no harm if we begin with proposed lokpal and v keep improving it as we go along!Being very high powered it will carry weight!” – Kiran Bedi (@thekiranbedi) January 31, 2013.

Bedi’s statements are crucial as her mentor Anna Hazare had already rejected the bill. Moreover, he threatened to launch a massive agitation if the UPA government pushed it forward.

Hazare was reported saying: “Both PM and Sonia Gandhi can no more be trusted to bring a stringent Lokpal bill to root out corruption … Had they been committed to the issue it would not have taken two years to take a concrete decision in this regard.”
