UP Minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh handed over his resignation for allegedly being involved in the murder of Kunda DSP Zia-ul-Haq. After accepting the resignation letter, Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav claimed that all the charges against Raghuraj were mistaken.
“Raja Bhaiya ka istifa ho gaya hai (Raja Bhaiya has resigned),” SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters outside Parliament.
Taking advantage of the situation, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati criticized the law and order situation in the state alleging that even the security forces are not safe here. Haq was killed on Saturday in Balipur village, 75 km west of Pratapgarh district headquarters.
An FIR has been lodged against the officer’s murder. Haq’s wife Parveen Azad has expressed possible involvement of four associates of the minister: Gulshan Yadav (chairman, Kunda nagar panchayat), Hari Om Shankar Srivastava (Raja Bhaiya’s representative), and Guddu Singh and Rohit Singh (drivers of the minister).
In a complaint to police, the DSP’s wife Pravin Azad said, “On the directions of Raja Bhaiya, Nagar Panchayat Chairman Gulshan Yadav, minister’s representative Hari Om Srivastava, his driver Rohit Singh and supporter Guddu Singh first assaulted my husband with sticks and rods and later shot him dead.”
According to the post-mortem report, Haq was shot once on the left by a 9mm bullet. Allegedly, Haq was also issued a 9mm pistol at his service firearm, which is missing since his death.
