Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad has finally accepted the resignations of ministers and advisors of MQM on Tuesday. The CM also accepted the resignations of the advisor to the chief minister. The resignation letters were submitted to the governor after MQM parted ways with the PPP government on February 16.
Ebad formally discussed the situation with President Asif Ali Zardari in Lahore where the two took decisions regarding the caretaker setup and agreed for MQM to sit on the opposition benches. Dr Sagheer Ahmed and Faisal Sabzwari submitted another application to Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, naming parliamentary leader Sardar Ahmed as the opposition leader.
Speaker Khuhro claims that MQM’s nominee Sardar Ahmed has more support than PML-F’s nominee Nusrat Sehar Abbasi to be appointed as the leader of opposition in Sindh Assembly. Later, MQM’s Syed Sardar Ahmed was notified as leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly.
“I was also waiting for the governor’s decision. MQM deserves to have the opposition leader because of its 50-member strength in the house,” he said.
PML-F leader Imtiaz Shaikh maintains that the MQM enjoyed power for about four years and nine months. Appointing their member as the opposition leader at this time is basically a strategic game played by mutual understanding of the ruling party and MQM.
“MQM decided to sit on opposition benches on the advice of PPP government so that they can setup their caretaker government. It is their joint strategy to rig the elections. We are the only real opposition. We have filed a contempt of court petition today (Tuesday),” he said.
