Despite the dissolution of provincial assembly on Monday, all parties standstill on the matter of caretaker government in Balochistan. Although the Balochistan Assembly could have completed its tenure till April 6, the chief ministers of all provinces and Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf decided to dissolve provincial assemblies before March 19.

Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfikar Ali Magsi took the initiative to dissolve the Balochistan Assembly on Monday. In the absence of an interim set-up, Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani will continue holding his charge until a caretaker chief minister is selected.

On the other hand, Balochistan High Court directed Tariq Magsi to replace Maulana Abdul Wasey as the leader of the opposition. Magsi had filed a petition stating that Maulana Wasey has served as a senior minister for the past five years; however, the speaker appointed him as the leader of the opposition merely a few days before the establishment of an interim set-up.

Following the footsteps of Balochistan government, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad dissolved the provincial assembly on Tuesday. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah sent a summary to the Governor, advising him to dissolve the provincial assembly on Tuesday. Similar to Balochistan, Syed Qaim Ali Shah will continue working as CM until the announcement of caretaker chief minister.

A decision over a caretaker CM in Sindh remains pending as Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Opposition leader of MQM in the Sindh Assembly, Syed Sardar Ahmed have failed to agree on any of the proposed options for the caretaker chief minister. However, following the dissolution of Sindh Assembly, Justice (r) Zahid Qurban Alvi has emerged as a strong candidate for the post of caretaker Chief Minister.
