Tariq Pervaiz, Punjab Home Minister, assures that the election code of conduct issued by the ECP has been thoroughly implemented in all the regions of Punjab. He claimed to have personally visited most of the areas to oversee the progress.

Pervaiz was talking to journalists at a press conference held in Lahore on Wednesday. He said foolproof security arrangements have been made for the upcoming polls. He assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in aerial firing and carrying weapons in public on May 11. Proper planning had been devised to deal with any unpleasant incident during the polling day, he added.

“Army and rangers’ personnel will also be deployed for this purpose… Proper security is being provided to all candidates and checking of bus stands, hotels and other places is also being carried out,” Tariq Pervaiz said.

The Home Minister also confirmed that security plans have been devised at provincial as well as district levels. He said that polling stations have been divided into three categories and security plan has been made for each category. In addition, CCTV cameras, video recording and walk through gates facilities would be ensured at polling stations.

“Effective security plan has also been devised for curbing any untoward incident… We are trying our best to ensure peaceful elections in the country,” he affirmed.
