PM Nawaz impressed by Beijing subway system

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif started his four-day foreign visit to China on Thursday. The new premier was invited by his Chinese counterpart during his visit to Pakistan. The new leaderships seem determined to strengthen economic ties between the two friendly neighbors.

During his visit, PM Nawaz is expected to keeps his focus on energy sector and bring home some prospects of improving the power crisis in Pakistan. Nawaz government is challenged by a weak economic growth, inflation and power cuts of up to 20 hours a day.

PM Nawaz is set to meet with the leaders of China Investment Corporation, China Development Bank and China Power Investment Corporation in Beijing today. He will also meet President Xi Jinping today and Premier Li Keqiang on Friday. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to attend a China-Pakistan Energy Forum in Shanghai and meet with a power company in the southern city of Guangzhou.

The delegation led by Nawaz will invite Chinese investors to pave their way into Pakistani markets. During his visit to Pakistan, Premier Li said that Beijing was prepared to improve the Karakoram Highway which would wide-open economic corridor between the two countries.

PM Nawaz travelled in the Beijing subway system on Thursday morning and enquired about its operation and facilities. He also ridded the metro train and was briefed about the subway system of Beijing. Talking to the press, Nawaz acknowledged the underground railway system and expressed desire to setup a similar facility in Pakistan.
