The controversial analogies drawn by Gujarat CM Narendra Modi have once again put him into trouble. After been censured for analogizing a puppy being run over in the context of the 2002 communal riots, Modi is now under attack from the Congress over his ‘veil (burqa) of secularism’ remark.

On Sunday, Modi lost track of his words and went on accusing Congress of wearing a ‘burqa (veil) of secularism’ for steering clear of all the problems. He said the leaders of Congress hide behind a bunker each time they face a crisis.

“This is not the first time the BJP has attempted this. In fact, the BJP and its organization the RSS, has always been trying to define India as majoritism. It has not worked for last 64 years. And, it will not work in the future.

“The message which I want to send out very clearly is that this thought, this ideology is dangerous not only for minorities alone, but also dangerous and far more dangerous for all those people in the majority community who believe in pluralism, who believe in inclusion, who believe in a way forward for both peace and harmony,” Information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari said.

Moreover, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh has demanded an explanation from Modi over his comments. Singh has urged Modi to define secularism and requested him to think twice before making such controversial remarks, especially over sensitive topics.

“I want to know what is the definition of secularism according to Modi ji. One religion, one culture, one nation is the definition of secularism according to the RSS and Advaniji. Modi ji should clarify what is his definition of secularism,” Singh said.
