The BJP has time and again indicated that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will be named as the prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 polls. The majority seems to have favored Modi during the party’s two-day coordination meeting. An official statement from the party is expected as soon as Wednesday.

The top leadership of BJP has called the meeting to discuss coordination strategy ahead of 2014 general elections. Naming Modi as its prime ministerial candidate has been the main topic of discussion among others. Party chief Rajnath Singh will decide when to make the call and issue a public statement. Modi’s assumed contender, party veteran LK Advani, came to the meeting late in the afternoon. Party leaders Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Murli Manohar Joshi and Rajnath Singh were also present at the meeting.

The party stands divided on whether to promote Modi as the face of BJP for the general elections and wait for poll results or to begin portraying him as India’s prospective prime minister. Advani and Sushma Swaraj allegedly want to project Modi as prime ministerial candidate only after the Assembly polls.

However, the majority is of the opinion that Modi should be declared prime ministerial candidate before the election process kicks start. Rajnath Singh is also in a decisive mood and does not want to delay the announcement any further. The majority has allegedly concluded that the people’s mood, cadres’ enthusiasm and the situation in the country favors Modi’s immediate elevation and boost for the BJP’s preparations for 2014.
