Expressing dismay over the abduction and murder cases against police officers, Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik of the Lahore High Court (LHC) observed that there is minimal difference between criminals and police officers as both kill people in cold blood.

Faisalabad Regional Police Officer (RPO) Javed Islam informed the court that the wife of missing Khwaja Ammar Azeem has alleged that her husband was killed in police custody. Ms Nighat Bano claims that her husband was abducted by police officers and she has provided CCTV footage as to prove her allegation. However, police maintains that Azeem has escaped from their custody.

RPO Islam suspects that the culprits involved in killing Azeem have dumped his remains in Faisalabad canal. He told the court that the concerned department has been requested to close the canal so the body can be retrieved. Police has already found a body from Faisalabad canal but only a DNA test can be used to identify the remains.

After hearing the case, Justice Malik expressed deep concern over the credibility of police department. He said it is becoming difficult for people and for judiciary to draw a line between criminals and police personnel. The RPO will submit a complete investigation report on September 20.

The concerned SHO and six other police personnel have already been named in the abduction case of Azeem. All the alleged criminal police officers have been fired while the SHO and another police officer are on remand.
