New Bursary To Help Active Ageing In South West CDC

The South West Community Development Council has launched a bursary to promote active ageing, social integration and lifelong learning amongst the elderly of South West. The scheme, with a worth of S$600,000, is expected to be helpful to about 3,000 elderly residents belonging to the lower income group for three consecutive years. The elderly can apply for this new bursary through their local community clubs.

Thru this bursary, successful applicants will be able to own S$200 worth of vouchers every year that they can use for enrolling themselves in elderly courses and programmes. The council hopes that the new bursary will empower the elderly to enrich their lives and to lead an active elderly life. Those living within Chua Chu Kang, Jurong and West Coast GRCs, as well as the Hong Kah North, Pioneer and Yuhua constituencies are eligible to apply for the bursary.

The Mayor of South West District, Dr Amy Khor, took a complete tour of the booths at the launch that took place at the Gek Poh Ville Community Club at Jurong West. With the bursary, the elderly can get a 200 dollar offset on courses and classes started new organizations. The Mayor said, ‘Through this programme which is part of the WeCare at South West initiative to strengthen the social safety net in the district, we hope to empower our seniors to lead socially active lifestyles an enrich themselves in their silver years. This will allow them to age gracefully and through their participation in community events, share their wealth of experience and knowledge with the younger generations.’
