The anti-corruption leader Anna Hazare, who left the Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee embarrassed two days back at the rally, said this Friday that he had skipped the poorly attended rally because he was misled by one of the organizers. He maintained that he still does not support any of the political parties but individually endorses Mamata as she is one of the best of the Chief Ministers of the country.

Breaking his silence on his absence at the much-hyped ‘joint’ rally with Mamata at Ramlila ground on Wednesday, Hazare told reporters that he had skipped the rally as he had been misled. He said he had been told that he had to attend the rally organized by Mamata while the Trinamool leader was informed it was Anna Hazare’s rally. “When I came to Delhi, by 12 noon I found out there were only 2,000 or 2,500 people in the rally. I thought that something is amiss as the Ramlila ground had not even 4,000 people… This was the mistake, this was the dhokhadhadi (deceit),” he said, “She was misinformed and I was misinformed.” Earlier, his aides had claimed that their leader could not attend the rally because he was “unwell”.

The leader further added that he would not support any party as the country had not become a real democracy. It’s still based on the party system, he claimed. At the same time, he endorsed the Trinamool Chief Mamata Banerjee individually because he supported the idea of a stable government in the country. “I have respect for Mamata. Of all the Chief Ministers in the country, she is the best. Her sacrifice, her character, her ideology… I supported her and not the party,” Hazare informed reporters.
