The Interior Minster of Iran, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, reached Pakistan this Monday and met this Tuesday the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Interior Minister of Pakistan Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army Raheel Sharif and the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan said his country is determined to boost ties with their neighbors including Iran. He added that establishing comprehensive relations with neighboring countries is a top priority of the federal government. The two sides also exchanged views on security issues in common borders. Whereas the Iranian Interior Minister Rahmani Fazli referred to the two countries’ cultural, historical and religious affinities and said Iran considers Pakistan as a friendly country. Mohammad Hassan Asafari, an MP who sits on the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Iranian Ambassador to Islamabad Alireza Haqiqian and some other officials were also present during the meeting.
The Iranian Interior Minister also addressed a press conference along with the Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan after his meeting with the Prime Minister in Islamabad. Chaudhary Nisar said that the two sides discussed issues of security, cross border terrorism, smuggling, human trafficking, greater intelligence sharing, cooperation between security forces and economic relations. He further added that both sides have agreed to strengthen cooperation on security and border management issues.
