The Singaporean police have arrested 18 suspects for offences related to drug dealing and usage and for gambling offences in two separate operations. Eighteen of these suspects were arrested in a, eighteen hour long, joint operation led by the Ang Mo Kio Police Division in the early hours of this Tuesday.

The operation was carried out in public housing estates and public entertainment outlets in Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Hougang, Punggol and Sengkang. Sixteen persons were arrested for drug-related offences and two for gambling offences. Officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) also took part in the operation. One entertainment outlet was found to be in breach of its licence and SCDF also detected two fire-safety violations. In a separate five-hour operation, nine suspects which included suspects from the age of 22 to 60 years of age, were arrested for operating a gambling den or gaming in a commercial building along Upper Paya Lebar Road.

The police said that officers from the Tanglin Police Division and the Criminal Investigation Department’s Specialised Crime Branch raided the unit this Wednesday. They seized 18 modified computers and cash amounting to S$1,280. Investigations are still going on into the matter.
