The Bukit Gelugor by-election candidate Abu Backer Sidek Mohd Zan jumped in front of the Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s car this Tuesday afternoon, by putting his right leg in front of the slow moving official car. He refused to budge after bumping into the vehicle and then laid in front, with head half under the vehicle until an ambulance arrived later to take him away after the 2pm incident.

Before the incident, Backer had tried to prevent Lim from leaving the Penang Legislative building at Lebuh Light here but security personnel stopped him. He appeared to have kicked the car in frustration before “banging” into the vehicle. He then refused to get up, complaining of pain in his side. His antics caused traffic to build up in the area populated by offices as office workers rushed back to work after having lunch nearby. Abu Backer had been desperately been trying to meet the Chief Minister. Previously his request had already been refused. He then narrated that it was more difficult to meet the Penang chief minister and way easier to meet with the Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders.

“It is so difficult to meet Lim, it is not that hard to meet other BN Menteri Besars,” he said while waiting outside the building’s perimeter. Messages and calls to Abu Backer’s personal assistant were not returned at the time of writing. He is suspected to have a fractured rib.
