The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain has been arrested in London this Tuesday in the wee hours of the morning when he was preparing to go to the doctor for his appointment. He has been arrested upon the charges of money laundering, a case which began when the Scotland Yard was investigating the case of Imran Farooq’s murder which took place on the 16th of September in 2010 at London.

After years of investigation, the Scotland Yard finally has enough evidence to arrest the chief of MQM. The appointment with the doctor was not cancelled but he was taken to the hospital by the police to ensure his health.  Hussains arrest has led to chaos, fear and a complete shutdown of Pakistan’s biggest city, Karachi. People are stuck at home, shops and all corporate work has been closed and there are protests by people in different areas of the city. Hyderabad, Sukkhur, Mirpur, Nawabshah and different cities in Sindh have also been closed in protest. The reasons behind protests are that the party workers want assurance that their leader is safe and there’s no threat to his health or life.

The government of Pakistan and the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has assured that the Altaf Hussain has full support from the Pakistani government. The Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif this Wednesday contacted the Governor of Sindh Ishratul Ebad Khan via telephone to ensure his maximum support. He also added that Altaf Hussain is a Pakistani citizen and member and that the government vows to try their best to resolve the problem.
