This Wednesday, the Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, reacted to a statement by an ex-official of the army and told him to be careful about what he says.  The former DG Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General (retd) Athar Abbas informed in an interview to BBC Urdu this Monday, that the military leadership was in favor of launching the operation since 2010 but Gen (retd) Ashfaq Parvez Kayani’s reluctance had delayed the process.

Abbas made it clear that the operation in North Waziristan could not be conducted before because of the indecision of the retired Chief of Army Staff. The Federal Interior Minister warned the retired officials to be careful while issuing statements. In a statement issued today, the Interior Minister advised all retired army personell who were part of major national decisions to be ‘reticent.’ “Being tactful and strategic is better for the nation and the country,” he added.

He further added confidentiality is important for the development of the nation and that a little slip of tongue in front of the media can cause havoc in the country. He further added that at a critical time like this, it’s vital for everyone to be united to serve Pakistan. He also asked the media to avoid making such issues the point of discussion. In a reply to concerned showed by Nisar, the retired Maj Gen Abbas said that his statement was in response to a question asked by the interviewer.
