Two suspects have been arrested after a theft of a diamond ring from a jewellery store on Orchard Store this Thursday. The diamond thieves had allegedly stole a 3.46 carat diamond ring which was worth more than S$260,000.

The Singaporean Police said in a news release this Friday that someone working in the store activated the panic alarm at 2:46pm the day before, when it was discovered that the diamond ring was missing and had probably been stolen. Two men were then caught near the jewellery stores who were both Chinese nationals and both were found to be 48 years of age. They are to be charged in the State Courts this Saturday that is tomorrow and if found guilty, might be sentenced to seven years’ in the prison and might have to may an additional fine.

According to AsiaOne the retailers should implement the following measures to stop shop theft: a. Display posters or signage to deter shop theft; b. Ensure a good line of sight with an appropriate shop layout; c. Keep expensive merchandise in locked display cabinets; d. Install CCTVs with a recording system; and e. Deploy adequate security personnel to patrol the premises for increased visual deterrence. These measures can not only control but completely stop shop thefts.
