Monday morning marked the dramatic win for the Prime Minister Julia Gillard who crushed the ex-Labor Party leader Kevin Rudd. Gillard received 71 confidence votes whereas Rudd could only gather support of 31 members.

Julia Gillard said that no doubt the ballot was messy but she was left with no choice. But now, the focus of the Labor party and the government are the people of Australia. She said, “I can assure you that this political drama is over and you are at the centre of our efforts. We will come together as a united team. We are driven by a common purpose. We will unite and focus on that; our Labor vision.”

Kevin Rudd spoke of the media after the historical defeat and expressed that he had no intentions to quit the parliament and will continue to work in his position as said by Gillard. He said, “I congratulate Julia on her strong win today. The caucus has spoken. I accept the caucus’s verdict without qualification and without rancor.”

He further added, “Our purpose is to serve the nation, not ourselves.”

Rudd took the backseat after his announcement as declared by him earlier and let Ms. Gillard lead the way for the party as well as nation.

Ms. Gillard, on the other hand, seems to have put the ballot behind her and is already working towards their campaign for the upcoming election ballot.
