Police authorities discovered the dead bodies of a man and his mother after nine days of their death in a house in Enoggera.

Son was taking care for his mother suffering from the disease of dementia and could not speak properly. Initial investigations report that the man might have died because of a cardiac arrest and the mother was unable to call for help.

Spokesman of the police said, “The believed 83-year-old woman and 51-year-old man were located by police at a Lone Pine Street address shortly before 4pm. Initial investigations suggest the deaths are non-suspicious.”

Neighbors of the dead have reported that they last saw the mother and son about nine days ago. So far, no one else has been able to verify if they were seen anywhere after that. Neighbors also reported that the mother and son were non-social and did not interact much in the neighborhood.

Gloria Peterson, the neighbor next door said, “He was not very sociable. He only spoke to me on one occasion really, soon after they moved in. After that I never saw him answer the front door, or speak to any of the other neighbors.”

She also said that the woman was incapable of talking therefore they could not interact even if she wanted to. She had also not seen anyone visiting them.

The mail lay outside the house unopened with the lawn appearing not to have been mowed for a while. Yet no neighbor bothered confirming if the couple was okay. Some neighbors did not even know the names of the couple.

The president of the Australian Medical Association Queensland Richard Kidd commented that it was a tragic incident and somewhat “a system failure.”

He said, “If we go back a couple of decades, the community was much stronger and there might have been a neighbor or someone checking on them on a regular basis. It speaks about community values breaking down.”
